Strategic Environmental Management
Tao Agency contracted to conduct a comprehensive waste audit at a world-class public facility in Vancouver, aimed at enhancing the venue’s waste management practices to achieve LEED certification—a requirement for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026™. This audit was critical not only for achieving operational efficiencies but also for aligning with broader environmental sustainability goals.
The process involved meticulous on-site sorting of waste into recyclables, organics, and landfill categories, revealing significant opportunities to optimize waste diversion strategies. The findings led Tao Environmental to recommend and assist in carrying out improvements in waste sorting infrastructure, management, and enhanced signage, coupled with educational initiatives to bolster recycling and composting rates effectively.
These strategic recommendations were designed to elevate BC Place’s waste diversion rate up to 90%, demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. This initiative exemplifies how integrating circular economy principles and sustainable practices can help large venues meet stringent global environmental standards and requirements.
The success of this project not only supports BC Place in achieving its sustainability goals but also underscores the importance of strategic environmental management and serves as a compelling example for other entities aiming to enhance their sustainability practices and achieve similar certifications.
